Great site. Just wanted to add something to the definition of fado and I guess saudade since the two are linked. I once heard that fado is about "the presence of absence". As anyone ever heard this before??

Mexico City, May 17° 1999

Hola, extraordinary Madredeus!

I'm Carmen again, from Mexico. I write you because it is inevitable for me to do, because I need to say once more "thank you" for the indescribable experiences that we have felt toghether, especially in the night in which you played in the Zocalo of Mexico City. Nobody imagined that something like this could be possible: the music and voice of Madredeus among the four building which resume the history of my country, of my city; with the wind of that night that made dance the flag in the middle of all of us, of all the people who was there (the most underestimated evaluations, we were almost 80000), with you, listening, dreaming, filling our young mexican heart with moving and strong hopes... This night was greater than every word that can be said on it, and it is, toghether with your music, intended for all of the corners of the world, accompanying me, like the immense desire and the possibility of a future, of a better present.
THANK YOU to everybody and to each one of you for this moment of creation.

Carmen

P.D. Greetings to the little Inês ... and to the good Marush, who was so amaible during his stay here in Mexico.
Return everytime here to this side of the Atlantic, because we will be waiting for your sail, listening to the sea.
"Hasta siempre" dear Teresa, Pedro, José, Carlos Maria and Fernando.

Ojalá pronto volvamos a vernos. Regresen siempre a este lado del Atlántico, que aquí estaremos aguardando su barco, a la orilla del mar.
Hasta siempre querida Teresa, Pedro, José, Carlos María y Fernando. Hasta siempre.

June, the 7th

Dear Madredeus,
by a collegue I heard (by luck) that you are going to be and play in the Netherlands in February. When I heard that, my heart got a shiver. At home, I immediately called some of my friends, you should have heard their screams and surprise! I have been calling with the two theatres you will play in. Unfortunately, one only had tickets for people who had an year-cart, for free tickets we have to wait until the end of August (will I survive?). Though the other will send me a reservation-list, if their are no tickets left for that list, we will have to wait until September. So, now I hope that the list will be on the stairs this afternoon, when I come home. And when I hopefully will have the tickets, I only have to try to keep this a secret, until the 21th of July, so that I can give them to my girlfriend, who has made me discover the beauty of your music, for her birthday.
Thank you for coming, your sincerely,

I have had the opportunity to live the experience of being to a concert of Madredeus. It happened in June 30° of 1999, in Mainz Germany, in a place called Volspark, for more than two hours Teresa Salgueiro taught us what beauty is thanks to her voice and feeling. The sobriety and the playing of the musicians, generated a magical atmosphere which goes beyond the barriers of language and put us in a place of peace for every human being.

Hello Madredeus fans,
first of all I would like to thank Corvinus for this fantastic site....we waited so impatiently to visit, because his work is really invaluable and we owe him a lot, thank you Corvinus for your faith, your heart, and everything given to our heroes....Madredeus, then....well....what can I say about them....? about Teresa? about Pedro?
I don't think I could really express my feelings in these few words, I would say that Madredeus has given me so much peace in my life, so much passion, many times, when I have failed, and done things wrong, felt so sad, and so hopeless....and just listen to their message of peace, with my deepest feelings, with all my heart, everything, just there, and then, sitting in another place, in another time, and another situation, listening in my mind that wonderful sound beyond music, beyond everything....

Music....beautifull music, the rhythm, the melody, the passion, and then....over everything....a miracle in portuguese...the voice of an angel.....ahhh.....gostei de conhecer tua voz Teresa.......I still remember the moment when I heard her voice for the first time....and then increasing my passion for Madredeus....every album...a new history....everything....and then.....Madredeus in Mexico....I couldn't believe it.....oh lord....I was so excited....
Went to "Teatro Metropólitan" and Zocalo concerts.....that was one of the best moments in my life... looking all my people, together, women criying....men smiling and feeling la verdadera saudade.....teenagers (like me) who were fighting for justice in the University....everyone, there, to hear the miracle.... the hope, in peace....thank you Madredeus.....

Madredeus, I am a great fan of yours since a quite long time, more or less since your first cd. I have all of your cds, I buyed your book and I saw the film "Lisbon Story" by Wim Wenders, which I think is fantastic also because it has Madredeus as actors. I still miss to see one of your concerts but I still miss the necessary time and money.
Regarding your music it is beautiful, relaxing, quite spiritual and it transmits us a great energy and leave us renewed. Up to now I have liked immensely every cd of yours and all of the music, and even if it is a style of music not everybody likes, it is really the best things produced in Portugal in this musical genre.
My friends and parents are not great admirers of this kind of music because they think that it is classical music, but that was the things that attracted me to your music, apart from the voice of Teresa Salgueiro which is the best one of Portugal because it has an exquisite timbre which enters our hear at the first listening.
I would like to say, in the end, that I play music and this passion of mine is completed by the one for you which many times makes me relax and inspire for my work at the university, and if I will be able to play music professionally I would like immensely that my group could be like Madredeus, the best group of Portugal and of the world.

It all started about 7:00 o'clock when the desperation of seeing one of my favorite grous forced me to depart from my house an hour and a half before the concert started, I arrived there about an hour later, because the traffic was very heavy, anyway, I was there and that's what mattered anyway. When the place was completely packed, everybody was expecting, none of my friends showed up, but that really doesn't mattered, at least for me, I was gonna see MADREDEUS, and I'm not talking just about Teresa Salgueiro, I mean I think she is beatiful too but Madredeus is a group, not a solo artist's project. In fact, Pedro Ayres is most important in my opinion, because he is the principal songwriter in it.
Anyway, the group came in to the stage, I was really excited, and when they hit the racks with "Haja o que Houver" it was like the best extasis of my life at that time, I couldn't believe I was there when they played "Coisas pequenas" or "A andorinha da primavera" Because those are great songs played by a great group as well. When they played "Guitarra" I had to shut my mouth off because I screamed as most of the people in my section did, but It was because that song really got us, and when they closed the show with "Alfama" I was completely excited but the nigth of the concert was about to finish, but I got out completely impressed because I couldn't believe I saw Madredeus.

Because of that and many other reasons It was like a dream come true for me to see the group in front of me on April 12 1999 giving me and my female cousin an autograph each, I just believe that wasn't a dream when I see the picture that I have with Teresa Salgueiro in my back smiling to the camera, and when I see the autograph in the "O Paraíso" cd book, specifically in her picture that says "Para Daniel con muito carino TERESA SALGUEIRO"

I am an admirer of Madredeus and particularly of Teresa Salgueiro.
My meeting and relative folgoration born, as always, from a prejudice.
One year ago I made a working travel to Lisbon and some of my collegues invited me to go listening "fado". I declined because I imagined a "weighty" music and I preferred the city of Lisbon during the night, fantastic!! One day, in my city of Gaeta, toghether with the daily "La Repubblica" there was a cd with musics from Portugal and I buyed it. The listening of the song "Haja o que Houver" was schocking, I listened it so many times without growing tired and the more I listened to it, the more it entered into me. My sons Andrea and Matteo, remained enchanted as if an enchanter had conquered their souls. I hurried up to buy the cd "O Paraíso" and recently "Ainda" and the film "Lisbon Story".
I remained astonished not only by the artistical capabilities of the group but also of the contents of their songs which are of an eemplar sensitivity, vitality and deepness. The 16° of July I went to Caserta to see them playing and the emotion and the waiting have been followed by two hours of celestial music. I thank Madredeus, Teresa Salgueiro, Pedro Magalhães because they have offered and they continue to offer a music which strike the heart and elevates the soul
Thank you

Since my first hearing of this group I've found myself discovering the beauty of its music and Pedro Ayres Magalhães' ability to transmit a wide arrange of scarcely experienced moods through his compositions and Teresa's voice. She is definitely a treasure capable of singing the truths of solitude and the weird joy that can be derived from mishap and from the mere contemplation of nature. No other music group can subdue my emotions like this one does whenever I lend myself to the high treat they offer the world in their songs. I eagerly expect to attend one of their concerts.
I'm very happy to have found this site and congratulate whomever is in charge of it for it's the best of its class.
